ASHLEIGH & JERMAINE
AT HOME NEWBORN SHOOT
The story behind the shoot

Ashleigh got in touch with me to redeem a newborn gift voucher which her work colleagues had purchased for her maternity leave gift.
As this was Ash’s first baby, they bought her a home shoot over a studio shoot, in case she didn’t want to leave the house in the first few weeks after her little one arrived.
Home & studio shoots are interchangeable so, if you change your mind or the circumstances change (maybe you have an unexpected c-section and can’t drive), we can re-arrange the location.
As her baby was overdue, we had to reschedule, but this was no problem at all. I recommend booking approximately 2 weeks after your due date, but that doesn’t always go to plan.

what they said
"I'm so glad we did our at home newborn photoshoot. After needing a C-section I definitely didn't want to be leaving the house to go for a shoot. Jess was amazing, she made us all feel so comfortable and most importantly she was amazing with our little girl."
"I would 100% recommend Jess to anyone for all their photography needs. I will treasure our pictures forever!!"
the final moments

A peek behind the scenes
My approach to home sessions is always the same: no rushing, no awkward posing—just capturing real, beautiful moments as they unfold.
I arrived with my beanbag, a couple of blankets and my white sheet backdrop and set up next to the window in their lounge. It was a lovely warm spot, with great natural light and, as my kit doesn’t take up a lot of space, it wasn’t too intrusive. Ash had prepared a few items that she wanted to include in the shoot (special blankets, a teddy and her wedding dress) so that I could incorporate those in to the images.
After I had got what I need of baby on the beanbag - with a bit of settling in between photos - I asked Ash & Jermaine to get in to some of the photos, too. I always encourage parents to get in front of the camera during a newborn shoot, as I think it’s so special to have those images of your tiny baby in your arms. These are the moments you’re going to want to remember.
I asked them to hold baby in certain positions (cuddle her on your chest, pop her on to your shoulder etc.) but I told them to do whatever feels most comfortable to them.
If you don’t want to look at the camera and smile, that’s fine! It’s essential that your shoot feels as relaxed as possible and I’d hate for you to feel awkward.
